Writing a Two-to-One Plan Before the Open
A practical sequence for locking entry, stop, and target on a Hong Kong equity chart while the overnight range is still settling.
Before the cash open, the temptation is to wait for the first fifteen minutes and then decide. That habit often leaves the stop and target as afterthoughts. A cleaner habit is to write the plan while the overnight range is still visible and the day session has not yet pulled you into noise.
Start with structure, not with size. Mark the swing that defines invalidation. If that swing sits too close to the entry for a two-to-one reward, either pass or wait for a better location. Size comes last: once distance to stop is known, the share count follows from the cash you are willing to risk on that idea alone.
On Hang Seng constituents, overnight gaps can move the entry. Rebuild the plan if the gap changes the reward arithmetic. Do not keep yesterday’s target simply because it looked tidy on the prior close.
Workshop participants often discover that writing the plan on paper slows them just enough to skip low-quality setups. That pause is the point. The sheet is a filter, not a formality.
